Bon Ton Society “Bon Ton Society”
Bon Ton Society “Bon Ton Society” 1986. Nocturnal Records. Four song EP. Another found item in the Vault reorganization; it was still sealed so I had no idea what to expect. From Milwaukee, Bon Ton Society is alternative 80′s music, kind of new wave emo/goth in the Love and Rockets/Cure/Echo style with a bright 80′s production sound and big drums. The internet has almost no information about the band – the only mention of them I could find was a You Tube interview/performance from 2012 during a reunion gig at Summerfest (it was the first time they played together in 25 years; in the 80′s they opened for the Violent Femmes). Bon Society is not bad! “Confession” is darkly new wave and according to the blurb about it on YouTube, the single got some college radio airplay and the video became a cult favorite at alternative clubs. “The Tide” has some really excellent guitar licks (though I could do without the occasional dramatic background whispering in the vocals), accented with some synth pop and a propulsive beat.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
