O.R.B. “Tailem Bend”
O.R.B. “Tailem Bend” 2024. Fuzz Club Records, red vinyl. Heavy psychedelic stoner rock via Australia. Tailem Bend is the band’s fourth LP, released six years after their previous release in 2018 The Space Between for which they toured supporting King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (a perfect pairing). Since I’m not familiar with that record or their earlier releases, I’m relying a bit on other reviewers; apparently this record is a bit of a departure from their historically doom rock sound, adding in some more dreamy, pop melodies. A lot of the record is late-night-drive hypnotic but there’s some light jangle and melody on songs like “Karma Comes” and “Skyclock” (both have a 60’s Sgt. Peppers era Beatles vibe) and some ass-shaking funk – “You Do” grooves hard. But there is plenty of heavy heavy doom — Sabbath level — on tracks like “Morph” and “Commandment.” My top track on Tailem Bend is the danceable garage-psych rocker “Can’t Do That.”
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
