Oingo Boingo “Dead Man’s Party”
Oingo Boingo “Dead Man’s Party” released on this date, October 28th, 1985. The band’s fifth album, “Dead Man’s Party” spawned a dizzying array of song selections for movie soundtracks. The title track is featured in Back to School (1986). Danny Elfman wrote “Weird Science” specifically for John Hughes’ film Weird Science. (We just tried watching that movie last weekend with the youngest Vault member. It was a no-go. After 20 minutes he asked for it to be turned off. I think too many references to women’s breasts and kissing = major discomfort.) “No One Lives Forever” appears in the ‘86 release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 as well as in Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997). Its lyrics are also perfect for the Halloween season (Let’s have a party there’s a full moon in the sky/It’s the hour of the wolf and I don’t want to’ die/I’m so happy/Dancing while the Grim Reaper/Cuts cuts cuts but he can’t get me) “Just Another Day” can be heard at the beginning of the ‘85 film That Was Then…This Is Now. Finally, “Stay” is on the soundtrack for Donnie Darko: The Director’s Cut.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
