Jane’s Addiction “Jane’s Addiction”
Jane’s Addiction “Jane’s Addiction” 1987. Triple X Records. Today, March 29th, is frontman Perry Farrell’s birthday (b. 1959). Jane’s Addiction is their debut release and though the band had already signed with major label Warner Bros., they choose to release their first album, recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood, on an indie label.
Ruthlessly driving with noise and fury, this live record captures the frenetic funk-metal energy of Jane’s Addiction with great tracks like “Pigs in Zen” (which also appears on their major label release Nothing’s Shocking), their band anthem “Jane Says” (also on Nothing’s Shocking), the excellent Rolling Stones’ cover “Sympathy” that shoved the 60′s classic into the post-punk era, and a nod to their Velvet Underground influence with “Rock & Roll.”
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
