Killing Joke “Eighties”
Killing Joke “Eighties” 12 inch single, 1984. EG Records. Side A: “Eighties (Serious Dance Mix)” Side B: “Eighties” and “Eighties (The Coming Mix).” Joe played this last night so I had to respin it today – I love this song!!! Serious flashbacks to driving around during the – wait for it – 80′s with a carload of friends, this song at top volume on the stereo, looking for something to do, somewhere to hang. The driving and danceable beat, anger and passion were perfect for the anticipation of a night of teen hedonism.
“Eighties,” from Killing Joke’s fifth studio album, reached #60 on the UK charts in ‘84. Aggressive, industrial, in the words of drummer Paul Ferguson, “the sound of the earth vomiting.” The two remixes on the 12″ are not much different from the single, expanded and tweaked so you can dance a little longer as the world vomits or burns.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
