Articles of Faith “Give Thanks”
Articles of Faith “Give Thanks” 1984. Reflex Records, produced by Bob Mould. Happy Thanksgiving! A little 80′s Midwest hardcore punk to spice up that traditional holiday vibe today (though this year is anything but traditional: we’d usually be driving north a couple of hours to see family but this year are staying home; I ordered takeout). From Chicago, Articles of Faith were on the smart side of hardcore (as well as politically aware and active; singer Vic Bondi went on to become a history professor and front other hardcore/emocore bands) and also musically adept as compared to many of their contemporaries. But it’s still super-fast and super-loud and super-yelly. My top songs are the title track “Give Thanks,” “Hollow Eyes,” “Chicago” and “American Dreams.”
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
