Bauhaus “Bauhaus”
Bauhaus “Bauhaus” Tone-Def Records, double album promo, released in 1990? Album 1, tracks 1-10, rejected studio mixes from Mask, 1981 and Album 2, tracks 11-20, March 1982, Milano, mostly tracks from In the Flat Field, Mask and Press The Eject and Give Me the Tape. The rejected studio mixes are quite great for rejects, but do lack a certain fullness and flavor of the legit Mask album (i.e. tracks like “Passion of Lovers,” “Of Lilies and Remains” and “Mask”). The sound quality of Album 2 is not great, like wearing earplugs at a show (so I guess maybe a realistic live experience). That said, the frenetic energy of “Flat Field” does poke its way through the mud and I can almost picture Peter Murphy’s manic dancing (in that same mud).
This unauthorized release is from a friend’s vault; he wanted to find out more about the album. Sadly I cannot find much more than I’ve already written above, though Album 2 mirrors closely the 1982 unofficial release Live in Milano At the “Odissea 2001″ on the German Geebo Geebo Records, so these songs are likely from the same live show.
Here is the tracklist as it appears on the back of the album rather than what is listed on the few websites I could find:
