Brain Bats “Road Kill From Outer Space”
Brain Bats “Road Kill From Outer Space” b/w “Night Terrors” 2017. Atomo-Guano Records. Artwork by underground comix legend XNO (Chet Darmstaedter) whose character Brain-Bat inspired the band’s name. Mini comic written by Brain Bats singer Dillon Hallen. This is the debut 7″ by Milwaukee thrashy punk-garage-metal band Brain Bats: it’s brief and gut-punching brutal (or, as guitarist Gian Pogliano states, “fast, loud and weird”). I picked this up last weekend at RushMor Records in Bay View, where singer Dillon also works. The band played RushMor’s stage last fall at the Bay View Bash and Dillon has a hilarious, if excruciating story, about that show, the band’s first (from an article in Milwaukee Record): “I had the shits the whole fucking day at the street fest. I had to shit so bad, in the heat, and I was trying to find some baby powder or something. I could barely walk my ass was so chafed. Finally we found this baby powder and I’m just going to town and someone walked in on me all bent over, sweaty, spreading baby powder on my ass before we had to go on stage. There’s a video of us playing. If you watch, you can tell from my movements I’m in pain.” You can view part of that performance here as they play “Night of the Vampire” by Roky Erickson.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
