Duran Duran “My Own Way”
Duran Duran “My Own Way” 1981. 12″ single. Import. (And by import, I mean my friend Jason went to London in 1984, bought it and carted it back across the ocean in his suitcase.) Side A is the Night Version of “My Own Way” with a lot more strings, an amazing extended funky disco bass line by the incomparable John Taylor and some enthusiastic growling by Simon Le Bon when he sings “April showers gggget out of my way.” Side B has the more subdued and vaguely exotic “Like an Angel” and the single version of “My Own Way,” which Duran Duran released in November ‘81, prior to dropping Rio in May ‘82 (they recorded yet another version of the track for Rio). “My Own Way” hit #14 in the UK and #10 in Australia.
The runout groove on Side A “Shake That Dotie Groove Thaaag” maybe in reference to “Play That Fucking Bass” John Taylor.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
