Echo and The Bunnymen “Echo and The Bunnymen Mini Album”
Echo and The Bunnymen “Echo and The Bunnymen Mini Album” aka “The Sound of Echo” 1983, Korova Records. Today, May 5th, is Echo frontman/songwriter/founder Ian McCulloch’s birthday (b. 1959). This 5-song mini album has some of my favorite songs: “Never Stop,” a single from 1983 which went to #15 in the UK, “Rescue” which was their second single (1980, #62 UK) and appears on Crocodiles, “The Cutter,” an exotic, psychedelic rocker from ‘83 (#8 UK, appears on Porcupine) and “Back of Love,” a single from ‘82 (#19 UK) which was also added almost a full year later to ‘83′s Porcupine. The final track on the EP is a raucously killer live version of my absolute favorite Echo song “Do It Clean.” They recorded it live at The Royal Albert Hall in London on July 18th, 1983. “Do It Clean” was never released as a single and did not initially appear on the UK vinyl version of their debut Crocodiles (1980) because a record label exec thought the song had obscene lyrics (more likely he couldn’t understand McCulloch’s thick brogue!), though it was included on the cassette release and was added to the US release of the LP. It also appears on the Echo comp Songs to Learn and Sing (1985).
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
