Elvis Costello and the Attractions “I’m Your Toy”
Elvis Costello and the Attractions “I’m Your Toy” 1982. 12″ limited edition UK import, F-Beat Records, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Today January 8th is Elvis Presley’s birthday but I’m not in the mood for that Elvis so instead spinning this Elvis doing his interpretation of American country rock.
“I’m Your Toy” is a cover of Gram Parsons’ “Hot Burrito #1″ which Costello (wisely) retitled using a line from the chorus. Side B of the 12″ single has three American country covers: “My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You” (Lee Ross and Bob Wills), “Blues Keep Calling” (Janis Martin) and “Honky Tonk Girl” (Loretta Lynn).
Honestly this isn’t my favorite Elvis Costello recording, not even close, but it fits with the Elvis theme for the day: rockabilly-country music inspired rock-n-roll.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
