Fishbone “Fishbone”
Fishbone “Fishbone” EP, 1985. Funky ska amazing. Doing a bit of background reading I learned that two Fishbone members appeared in the Eurythmics video for “Would I Lie To You?” Huh.
“Ugly” is fantastic, upbeat. “?” is straight up weird, discordant and experimental, I guess earning its name nicely. “Party at Ground Zero” gives a sample shout-out to Bizet’s “Carmen” while “V.T.T.L.OT.F.D.G.F.” gives a tease into the metal-tinged direction that Fishbone would take in later years. (According to Wikipedia, the song’s name stands for “Voyage to the Land of the Freeze-Dried Godzilla Farts,” and is about a government attempt to convince the public that Hiroshima was actually caused by Godzilla farting.)
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
