INXS “Original Sin (Dream On)”
INXS “Original Sin (Dream On)” 1983. 12″ single, the first single from their 1984 album The Swing (which is my overall favorite INXS record). Produced by Nile Rodgers, the single hit #58 in the US and went to #1 in their home country Australia. Fun fact: blue-eyed soul superstar Daryl Hall sings with Michael Hutchence on the chorus! It’s politically charged but with a hopeful message to a highly danceable, funky new wave beat. I adore “Original Sin” – the 12″ has two versions on Side A: an Extended Remix (a lot more bright synth bleep bloops) plus the single version. Side B has two earlier INXS songs – “Stay Young” which was the first single from their 1981 album Underneath the Colours (#21 Australia) and “Just Keep Walking,” the sole single from their 1980 debut INXS; it went to #38 in Australia. The difference of those tracks as compared to the richness in production (and funkiness) of “Original Sin” is pretty dramatic. Their collaboration with Rodgers was definitely a big step forward in their 80’s pop evolution.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
