Jane’s Addiction “Mountain Song”
Jane’s Addiction “Mountain Song” b/w “Standing in the Shower…Thinking” 1988, from the band’s first studio album Nothing’s Shocking. I distinctly remember hearing this song for the first time: my friend Erika was driving us from high school to downtown Appleton. As we crossed the College Avenue bridge that goes over the Fox River, “Mountain Song” came on and she CRANKED it – the windows in her crappy, beat-up blue Chevette almost blew out. It’s anthemic, dark, moody and majestic, full of sweat and fury. “Standing in the Shower…Thinking” is another favorite JA song of mine – an inevitable ass-shaking ear worm for when I’m actually standing in the shower…thinking. (But I always sing “the water is so fucking hot, the water is so fucking hot” and then turn down the temp a bit)
Standing in the shower thinking
About a man I know don’t like me
He don’t like the place I’m headed
Same place he’s headed…
I know he’d beat me to it
If he could but he won’t do it
But he would man
If he could…
And the water is piping hot..
The water is piping hot
It beats upon my neck
And I’m pissing on myself…
Standing
In the shower
Thinking…
