Johnny Marr and James at the Riviera Theatre
We saw Johnny Marr and James perform at the Riviera Theatre this past Thursday evening (October 17th) and it was incredible. James singer Tim Booth was out in the audience, climbing up into the opera booths, scaling the balcony, never missing a beat. Johnny Marr’s guitar work is as stellar as always and besides some awesome solo tracks (including one of my favorites “Hi Hello” from his 2018 LP Call the Comet), he performed a bunch of Smiths songs: “The Headmaster Ritual,” “There is a Light That Never Goes Out,” “Panic,” and one of my all-time favorites “How Soon is Now.” The best moment of the evening was the first song of the encore when Tim Booth returned to the stage to sing Iggy Pop’s “The Passenger” with Johnny Marr and Marr’s backing band. We got right up to the rail so here’s a bunch of photos I took and the video of “The Passenger.”
