Oingo Boingo “Dead Man’s Party”
Oingo Boingo “Dead Man’s Party” released 35 years ago today, October 28th, 1985. The band’s new-wavey 5th LP went to #95 on the US charts and tracks from the album went on to be featured in a ton of movie/movie soundtracks (Oingo Boingo’s songwriter, Danny Elfman, has become the go-to man in Hollywood for film soundtracks). The title track “Dead Man’s Party” is featured in Back to School (1986) where Oingo Boing performs it at a party, as well on TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Elfman wrote “Weird Science” (#45 US) specifically for John Hughes’ film Weird Science (1985). “No One Lives Forever” appears in the ‘86 release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 as well as in Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997). “Just Another Day” can be heard at the beginning of the ‘85 film That Was Then…This Is Now. Finally, “Stay” is on the soundtrack for Donnie Darko: The Director’s Cut (2004). Overall, a great Halloween season 80′s new wave spin.
