Not quite an official band, more of a collective of 4AD artists, This Mortal Coil creates an ambient, dreamy, gliding post-punk gothic soundscape featuring 1980′s alternative artists. “Holocaust” features Howard Devoto (Buzzcocks and Magazine) on vocals; Robbie Grey of Modern English sings “Not Me” (one of the few upbeat and danceable tracks on the album); members of Dead Can Dance are featured on “Waves Become Wings,” “Barramundi” and “Dreams Made Flesh,” and seven out of the album’s twelve tracks features members of ethereal-wave giants, Cocteau Twins, including the single “Kangaroo.” “Kangaroo,” an Alex Chilton cover, also features Gordon Sharp of Cindytalk on vocals.
