Siouxsie and the Banshees “Dear Prudence” b/w “Tattoo” 1983. Written by John Lennon and appearing first on the Beatles’ White Album, “Dear Prudence” became a top 5 hit for Siouxsie and the Banshees in late ‘83 and then appeared on their ‘84 LP Hyena. The B-side’s “Tattoo” is a dreamy hypnotic trip with downplayed vocals that only appears on a couple of 21st century comp releases.

“Dear Prudence” is a masterful rework of the Beatles classic. Siouxsie’s clear voice and the Banshees’ gothy psychedelic soundscape takes Prudence (Mia Farrow’s sister) out of meditation in India with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and into the black-lit club of early 80′s Britain where she can transcend ego through trance dance.
