A Place to Bury Strangers “See Through You” 2022. DedStrange Records. The 6th studio LP from “the loudest band in New York” on limited edition yellow & black marbled vinyl. Psychedelic shoe-gazey (but loudly so) noise rock. I’ve heard of APTBS but I don’t recall ever making an effort to sit down and listen to a whole record. It’s very atmospheric, heavily trippy and decidedly not ass-shaking (rhythmically complex and challenging, actually), though they’re a few tracks that vaguely veer in that direction. “So Low” is one; it’s got a distorted driving beat with lots of swirly shit happening over the top and “Dragged in a Hole” goes a bit industrial. “Anyone But You” is chaotic punky fun (with that swirly shit, but on steroids). “Broken” is probably the most straight-forward rock song (albeit with a post-punk vibe) on the album, with a tight beat, driving bass-line and even a bit of jangly shredding at the bridge. Of the four singles from the album (100% certain none charted), I’d pick “Hold on Tight” as my top pick, though I like the aforementioned tracks better.
