Milwaukee’s Indonesian Junk plays glammy power punk in the spirit of the Dead Boys (they opened for the Dead Boys back in April ‘17  – ok, it was Cheetah Chrome and Johnny Blitz but still!), New York Dolls, The Stooges and The Heartbreakers. The band’s latest release, Stars in the Night, has all of the sneer, snot and darkness of that era, propelled by guitarist/singer Daniel James’ dead-ringer Stiv Bators vocal delivery and reinforced by Johnny Cyanide’s bass (his Lords of the New Church t-shirt cements the influence, just in case you missed it): see “Turn to Stone,” “Stars” and the super-catchy “I Would Never Treat You Like That.” But there is variety to their sound – “Nosferatu” combines a traditional southern blues riff with gothic punk snarl, “Tonight” is straight-forward rock-n-roll, complete with guitar solo and “On the Run” is a tear-jerking barroom ballad.
