]]> Soundtrack to “The Big Chill” 1983. Motown Records. It’s currently 3 degrees with a windchill of -12 and the Vault’s furnace is broken, a quite literal Big Chill. I wasn’t even into my teens when The Big Chill came out – it was really aimed at my parents’ then-thirtysomething generation – so many of the classic Motown hits that appear on the soundtrack only remind me of the 80′s rather than the 60′s and early 70′s (with the exception of Three Dog Night’s “Joy to the World” which had been on heavy rotation during my childhood). The soundtrack reached #17 on the Billboard album chart in ‘83 and the film was nominated for three Oscars. My favorite tracks are “Joy to the World,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by The Temptations, The Rascals’ “Good Lovin’” and “A Whiter Shade of Pale” by Procol Harum.  Also great, of course, is the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” which does not appear on this original soundtrack LP; it was later included on a re-release deluxe CD version in 2004.
