With production work by Black Keys’ Patrick Carney and Dap-Kings’ Tom Brenneck, Underneath the Rainbow – the band’s 7th full length release – is a weird mix of garage punk blues (“Boys in the Wood,” “Dandelion Dust”), Beatlemania (“Drive-By Buddy”), snotty 60′s doo-woppy surf-a-billy (“Smiling,” “Dorner Party,” “I Don’t Wanna Go Home”), Dead Milkman redux (“Make You Mine”), 70′s T. Rex power glam (“Funny”) and dark jangle pop  (“Justice After All,” “Waiting”). I suppose this schizophrenic compilation of tracks could be viewed as a natural evolution of a band that began with the reputation of one of the wildest acts, banned from playing venues in their home state of Georgia (some antics included GG Allin level grossness – vomiting, urination, nudity as well as general stage anarchy), then gained national exposure with positive critical reviews, showcases and TV performances (SxSW, Conan O’Brien, etc.) and working with top-tier producers (Mark Ronson on Arabia Mountain).
