The Reds “The Reds” 1979. 4 song 10″ EP. The Reds “is a combination of textures dense with electronic chaos brought to the edge of madness, then resolved into piercing clarity” (last.fm). The EP begins with a punk infused cover of The Doors’ “Break On Through,” followed by “Self Reduction” which reminds me of Iggy and the Stooges (and Murder City Devils – who The Reds predate considerably – with the heavy emphasis on grungy organ). Side 2 begins with “Whatcha’ Doin’ To Me,” a hard driving garage rocker which feels more mid-90′s garage punk revival than punk-new wave-disco era ‘79. “Destination” is a heavy slow burner, vocals seething with plaintive anger. The Reds is a new acquisition to The Vault and I’m totally digging it.
