The Cult “She Sells Sanctuary”
The Cult “She Sells Sanctuary” 12″ single, 1985. Side A – “She Sells Sanctuary (Howling Mix)” Side B – “She Sells Sanctuary (12″Mix)” and “Little Face.” I didn’t think it was possible for this song to get any better – but the Howling Mix is about 8 ½ minutes of whirling and, yes, howling perfection: the beat seems to be crisper than the original and brought forward in the mix while maintaining my favorite part, the almost acoustic guitar strum at the end of each major musical phrase. The 12″ Mix is much closer to the standard single version: similar production, just longer (and a few “ah-ah-ah’s” and “yeah-yeah-yeah’s” thrown in by Ian Astbury, topped off with a little hand-clapping applause at the end).
