The Cure “Let’s Go To Bed”
The Cure “Let’s Go To Bed” b/w “Just One Kiss” released 35 years ago on this date, November 15th, 1982. 12″ single, Fiction Records, UK version (both the US and UK releases have extended mixes of both songs, the UK edition of “Let’s Go To Bed” fades at the end rather than ending abruptly like the US release). The remix draws out the bright synth chirps, has multiple beat breakdowns and staccatos portions of the echoey lyrics. “Let’s Go To Bed,” reached #44 in the UK, its sound catchily upbeat and danceable synth pop as compared to much of The Cure’s earlier work on Pornography, Faith, etc. It marks the transition of The Cure from an underground goth post punk group to a radio-friendly new wave band. By contrast, the B-side “Just One Kiss” is dark, eerily swirling with minor synth chords, a similar vibe to prior singles like “A Forest,” “The Hanging Garden” and “Charlotte Sometimes.” Both “Let’s Go To Bed” and “Just One Kiss” appear on the 1983 singles compilation Japanese Whispers.
