The Ghost Wolves “Never Die”
The Ghost Wolves “Never Die” 2022. Limited edition signed copy with hand-written note included. The Ghost Wolves are a two-piece out of Texas: Carly (ethereal vocals, guitar, Eminence Speakers, Earthquaker Devices pedals) and Jonny (“whatever dirty old drums he can get his paws on”) Wolf. Their music is buzzy, eclectic, experimental, a bit psychedelic and Americana gothic; their Bandcamp bio describes them as “The Cramps from the crypt met up with the Ramones and take all the cocaine Hasil Adkins left on the floor.” Their most recent release, Never Die, has the vibe of a Grimm fairy tale set in a dim Texas saloon filled with smoke and taxidermy. There’s some truly creepy tracks like “Never Die” and “Devil’s Vine” – Carly’s voice floats like a ghost over Nosferatu organ and their cover of Patti Smith‘s “Ghost Dance” is a perfect fit for the record. There’s also a couple of psychedelic garage rockers (and not surprisingly these are my favorite on the LP): “Wild One” and “Pieces of 8.”
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
