The Sadies “Colder Streams”
The Sadies “Colder Streams” released this past Friday, July 22nd, 2022. Ice color vinyl, Yep Roc Records. The Sadies’ 11th release and final with co-founder guitarist/singer/songwriter Dallas Good who died in February. The Sadies are often filed under the alternative country genre listing but this record is straight-up 60’s inspired neo-psychedelia garage rock with touches of Americana folk…which I guess could be “alt-country.” The song “All the Good” does have some heavy finger-picking country twang and the brief “You Should Be Worried” has a country ballad flavor but those are the exceptions on Colder Streams. The rest of the record is swirling walls of sound with pop melodies and tons of harmonizing. My top tracks are the opener “Stop and Start,” the dense 60’s style psych rockers “So Far For So Few” and “Better Yet.” Of course my absolute favorite has to be the midtempo groover “No One’s Listening” upon which Jon Spencer is credited with providing guitar and “fuzz.”
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
