The Woggles “Teendanceparty”
The Woggles “Teendanceparty” 1993. Estrus Records. Garagey hybrid of surf, R&B, rockabilly, and blues out of Athens, GA. I am fairly certain we saw The Woggles sometime in the mid-90′s, maybe at the Cactus Club (and possibly opening for Deadbolt) and I have to agree to the description from their website bio: The Woggles’ live shows are the stuff of rock’n’roll legend. The four members of the band conjure up a sound that bypasses the brain and goes straight for the hip-bone. The Woggles’ wailing, tambourine flailing leader “The Professor” Mighty Manfred casts the mojo like electricity from his fingertips.
Teendanceparty is The Woggles’ debut full-length album and it is indeed ass-shaking. My favorite tracks are “Abba,” a VERY 60′s rockin’ psychedelic tinged track with jangley guitar, and “Struttin’ in Style,” a slow-stomper that would feel right at home on a Cramps’ record.
Daily (maybe) pulls from the vault: 33-1/3, 45, 78, old, older, classic, new, good, bad. Subjective. Autobiographical. Occasionally putting a record up for sale.
